For the reverse of this UK coin, product designer Emma Noble has remastered an original illustration by Mary Shepherd that shows Mary Poppins making her way on the east wind with her umbrella and carpet bag in hand. The official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III appears on the obverse.

Who is Mary Poppins?

The classic childhood character Mary Poppins first blew in on an east wind to Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane more than 90 years ago. P. L. Travers’ classic children’s books saw the practically perfect nanny take the Banks children on several magical adventures over the course of an eight-book series.

Mary Poppins first visits Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane, blowing in on an east wind to be nanny to Jane, Michael, Barbara and John Banks.
