2011 Olympics Fencing 50p Circulated Coin
Issued as one of the 29 Olympic 50p designs to commemorate the games in London 2012. Each 50p features a different Olympic sport.
Fencing is a combat sport using three blade weapons; foil, sabre and epee. It is one of only four sports that have featured at every modern Olympic Games. Ruth Summerfield, a radiologist from Stoke-on-Trent submitted the winning 50p design having been inspired by her friend who is a fencer.
